So pulled my heads, found a probable bad spot in the head gasket. Should be getting my heads back from machine shop this week. Was going to replace push rods with updated ones and thought I would do lifters also. But realized you can only do the front four on each side unless you remove the back cover. The truck has 154k on it pulled the front four lifters on the passenger side no sign of wear other than normal. I have read about a squeak(which I have) when you shut the truck off that could be lifter issue or just a belt squeak. So what I am asking is should I pull the rear cover or not. Also should I replace the front four lifters on each side even if I do not pull the rear cover? Also the new push rods have a copper end and the old one don't. Does the copper end go up or down? Also does anyone know the TSA for the push rods and the lifter issues? Thanks
Was my understanding that the new rods did not have the coper end
and it was the old ones that do. Also the coper ones are put in only one
way You should find that in the DVD I sent..

I did find it and you are correct I need to make sure they gave me the right ones. I am having trouble deciding if I want to pull the rear cover or not though. Thanks
I believe the updated push rods are shorter. You can compare them and see if you already have the updated push rods.
Pulling the rear cover will involve more work. I think you will be able to replace the rear main seal though ( mine is leaking @ 200k miles ). I look at it this way, if you have it in you then it can't hurt.

I am going to my work to see if they have the special tool to install the rear main seal and if they do I will pull the trans and do it. If I don't I will regret it. I will compare my push rods also. thanks
So pulled the trans and transfer case back today. Was not the easiest thing to do. Tomorrow I will pull the rear cover and install new lifters and while I am there a new HP oil pump. What the hell its only money I can make more, RIGHT!! lol Then try and put that monstrosity of a trans and transfer case back in. I also had found in the disc you sent me Sean where the copper end goes up. The new push rods are shorter also.

The HPOP in these later 6.0's are very reliable and will last a long time. Anthony over at SDUTYS used to pull campers with his 2006 F350 and has over 800k miles on the original OEM pump. It seems like a lot of $$ for a part that rarely goes bad.

Unless you think there is a problem with yours.

I here ya but I just don't want to have to pull this thing apart anymore or at least for another 5 years or so. With my luck it would go bad 1k after putting the truck together. I was even looking at new Chevy, GMC, Dodge and Fords. But you cant touch anything similar to what I have for less than 68-75k. So the couple of grand I am spending in reality is cheap.
