I recently obtained a pair of running boards from a King Ranch Super Duty, the same style that came on most Excursion's, that have a courtesy light in the front and back. I'm also adding 6.0 mirrors with the turn signals in them.
I want to add them both to the courtesy light circuit, that way when I open the door they come on but are still time delayed. I would also like to avoid them turning on when I flip the interior lights on via the dimmer dial on the headlamp switch. Does anyone know the best place to slice in power for them? Do I need to run a separate lead for the mirrors, one to the running lights and one to the time delayed courtesy lamp circuit? I also do not have keyless entry.
Not sure about the the year of your truck but on my 06 - I tapped into the black wire with blue tracer that's under the plastic threshold at the drivers door. I also ran a wire over to the passenger side and ran it out the plastic pocket where the threshold snaps into place for my running board lights. Unfortunately these lights do come on when I turn on the interior lights via the interior light switch. I don't believe there's a way to use the time delay for the running board lights and not have them come on with the interior light switch. Hopefully someone will chime in that's more knowledgeable than me. Here's a couple of links that might help:
