Better Brakes

How much better stopping power can be achieved by installing an upgrade brake kit? There are several kits on the web. Does anyone have personal experience with an upgrade kit? What do you think? pros/cons.

I went with Frozen Rotors slotted rotors, Hawk pads and replaced all 6 brake lines with Crown Performance Stainless Steel brake lines. I definitely notice the difference in my brake pedal. Firmer with less pedal travel.

Thanks. So are you saying that the truck stops faster/quicker than it did before?

I've been impressed with the Motorcraft Superduty pads. They'll easily grab well enough to kick in the ABS where the old pads wouldn't.

upgraded brake parts also need upgraded tires and maybe wheels....

where tire meets the road... locked wheels/tires means less stopping power and Greater distance.
look it up.

my opinion.

I never really did a panic stop before I swapped everything out nor have I done one after the upgrade. But less pedal travel = quicker braking - the pedal travels a shorter distance before the brakes grab reducing the reaction time. So yeah, stops quicker.

I bought Bendix Fleet Metlock rotors and pads for my front and have been really impressed. They stop quick, don't throw a ton of dust off (after the first 250 miles), are quiet and stay cool. Huge improvement over the stock Ford pads and rotors!

I installed the Powerstop Tow/Haul extreme kit for front and rear a few moon ago. They will throw your toupee on the dashboard. No squeal, no dust, no fade. Just have to follow the break in procedure. Can not really say how much of an improvement over a stock replacement because my rotors were pretty bad when I bought the truck.

AMEN! double amen here. I am on my 2nd set of PowerStop truck/tow/haul extreme (whatever, I forgot the name) and they are literally impressive.

"throw your toupee on the dashboard" is the truth.

I work in Orlando traffic, always craziness there. texting and driving, everything.. I have used my high-performance brakes to the fullest, quite a few times.

I got their pads and rotors, twice now. (the first time I had a caliper problem and the fronts only lasted about 50,000 miles).

I have a detailed thread about the performance and break-in procedure somewhere here on FTE.

Buy them, and you won't be disappointed.

I recommend Rockauto.com but please tell us if you find a better deal.
I bet you're looking at $400+
but after you pay for them you'll completely forget about the money.

I went with Hawk pads, Power slot cryo rotors, and stainless steel brake lines. It definitely stops better than it did before.
