I have a pair of channel locks that are about 1.5 ft long and they did not break the filter loose. It was insane how tight the filter was on my truck. I cannot remember for sure, but I may have taken a short bar and used it as a breaker bar on the chain filter wrench.

Good to hear the truck is just about ready to get back on the road, let us know how the filter removal goes.

I won't be back under it until the morning. Watching my boy at cross country practice for a bit, then I have training at the fire house. I'm itching to get it done. If I had my box from riff raff I would probably slip everything and finish it up!

A few decades ago I had a buddy who had just gotten married call me and ask for help with a similar story on his wife's Camaro. Filter was stuck so he drove a screwdriver through the side of it and tried to remove it that way. When I got there, all that was left was the metal plate that holds the o-ring. The outer housing and filter were completely gone.

The good news is, you've got much more room to work on things than that old Camaro. What I ended up doing after some thinking, was to use a steering wheel puller to remove the plate, but not in the way a steering wheel puller usually works.

I found two bolts that would fit up inside the holes on the plate of the oil filter and slid them through the puller. Then used a pair of crescent wrenches on the slotted part of the puller to loosen the plate. You want the slotted frame and wrenches as close to the plate from the filter as possible so the bolts don't twist any.

You could try a similar approach with 3 screwdrivers (two in the holes and the other threaded between them), but it's hard to get enough torque on them that way since it's tight enough to have destroyed the filter already.

Also, for future just in case, NAPA sells an oil filter wrench that is about 4" wide and will grip the filter housing if it looks like a regular filter wrench won't work. I had pictures of one in my gallery, but they seemed to have done away with those for me.

Got it off! Bigger channel locks did the trick. My motto holds true; if it don't fit, force it!

As a Medic you should be able to bandage that up, maybe rub a little dirt in it and throw it back on the truck.

I thought about straightening it out and taping it up to make a meme about valvoline oil change centers lol

Somebody tighten that filter with an impact wrench? That is the nastiest looking filter removal that I have ever seen.

No more progress after finishing the oil change. Haven't been able to start the truck yet, I'm still waiting on my package from riff raff. Should be here Monday though. Only things I have done are work on my motorcycle (made a homemade carb sync tool) and change the oil in the charger.
I have a new bushing that I got for the shifter for the dually last week, I may try to get that put on and see if it fixes the play issues while I'm patiently waiting on parts!

When I tore the miniscus in my bad knee (clutch leg) and then stopped by the Ford house and discovered I really didn't care for the 2017 models and their F150 cab. I realized if I was ever going to get a new truck that still had a super duty cab, it was then or never as the 16's were disappearing quickly.

The son in law has my 02 as his daily driver. He doesn't drive near as much as I do, so it's kind of like a retirement where the truck stays active a bit. The odometer is still rolling on it, just not as fast as before.

I got my parts from riff raff today and got the truck buttoned up. Cranked for 30 seconds twice with the VCH disconnected, then plugged it in, now I'm charging my batteries again. I'll try it again soon, hopefully it fires!
