Flakey Fuel Gauge

2003 F-250, 5.4 liter, gas, with 40 gallon tank.

My fuel gauge is erratic. Today I filled the tank but the gauge moved only from 1/4 to 1/2 and then slowly rose just a bit more after 115 miles of driving. It has been acting erratically like this for over a year but usually climbs slowly to full mark.

Any ideas?

Appears to be a relatively common issue based in a thread search, with no real solution.

This poster said fuel treatment fixed his.

Thanks for the reply. I have an additional problem in that I have to dribble the fuel in or the pump shuts off.

Wonder why that is? It's been that way since I bought the truck 6 years ago.

tons on threads on that - one every week. Clogged breather hose is the most common cause.
