4R100 Acceptable Temperature??

Question Here. I have an 01 Super Duty with a 5.4 Triton and the 4R100 transmission in it. I just upgraded/replaced the old factory auxiliary trans cooler with this Long Tru-Cool 28,000 lbs Gross aluminum cooler. As well as I just recently replaced my stock trans pan with a Deep cooling trans pan with cooling tubes and it holds 7 additional qts of fluid and I replaced the ATF & Filter at the same time as doing the pan. My question is, is it normal on warmer days like +26 (AB Canada) to be running at the 160-185 mark? This is from today running on the hwy and in town. And it was +26 outside today. Im also really wondering what is considered HOT for the 4R100 Transmission?? Any input is appreciated

170 running today after highway & city driving in +26 weather.

Normal temps are about 60-100°F above ambient. You can run up to 220°F all day long with no problem. You can go as high as 250°F for no more than a half hour at a time.

What are the measurements of that cooler? The 28,000 pound rating is absolutely meaningless. I know why cooler manufacturers put that on their packaging, but it doesn't mean anything.

I keep hearing about "ambient" what does that mean?? Haha sorry, I've read that word on several different google searches I tried and I still couldn't figure out what it was referring to. The cooler that I'm running is 11" by 11" and is aluminum. I'm really starting to consider buying an 05+ 6.0 PSD cooler and running it in sequence with my Tru-Cool cooler.

Ambient is your outside air temp, the temperature around the vehicle.

Why would you add another cooler?

I figured if I run 2 coolers than that would keep it at cooler temperatures without the single cooler having to handle it all itself. I'd rather be safe than sorry, and an extra cooler would be a good investment in the long run I think. I'd just run them in parallel with each other. The tru-cool + a 6.0 cooler.

Would that be in parallel one after the other or side by side (Y in and out)?

In parallel, one will get more flow than the other. In series, the back pressure will be higher.

That said, most setups I see are set up in series, one after the other.

Keep in mind there is such a thing as being too cool. In winter you want some heat in your transmission. I went with a 6.0L cooler and a Derale fluid thermostat. Once the fluid reaches 180* the internal thermostatic valve closes and the fluid goes THROUGH the cooler.
Before the thermostat closes, only 10% goes to Cooler, the rest is sent back to the transmission to warm up. My temperatures towing through the Rockies range from 180*-201*. The 201* was the highest I've recorded since the cooler and thermostat install.
