trans cooler needed?

I did a search for trans coolers and didn't find anything on the 6.0 so I hope this isn't something that's been gone over a lot, but here goes. I am wondering whether my 05 6.0L needs a tranny cooler to tow my fifth wheel,(12500#) on extended day to day traveling. Last year we took a 3 month trip and out west we ran into quite a bit of hot weather. I didn't think much of it at the time but with temps in the upper 90's and low 100's I wonder if I did any damage to my truck. The temp never changed much on the stock dash guage, but I understand that it may not be very accurate. We are planning another trip west to AZ and I would be interested in any comments about whether I should go and get a tranny cooler in addition to what the truck already has. Thanks

Should not be a problem. The torq-shift is very efficient and already has a cooler.

As maxium4x4 said, the engine and tranny cooling on the 6.0L is one thing Ford did right. No need for any additional cooing.

All 6.0 TorqShift equipped Super Duty trucks come from Ford with a large trans cooler. Look under the front of your truck. You'll see a small cooler just behind the front bumper and in front of the crash bar. That little cooler is for the power steering fluid. Directly above and behind that is the A/C evaporative cooler, behind that is the trans cooler. It's huge for a factory cooler! It's also very efficient and more than enough even if you tow heavy. The TorqShift doesn't even need a deep pan to stay cool. Ford got this right!

I would suggest having the trans flushed and fluid changed at 25,000 miles if you tow. The little 'toilet paper roll' filter under the right front of the truck is really simple to change. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping that the factory cooler was OK, but I am glad that it is. I was concerned driving thru the summer heat last year this helps put my mind to ease, Thanks again
