My 94 F150 is that same way or worse. I have been rolling my electric window down to open my driver's side door from the outside handle for a while now. I know I need to replace my top hinge pin and bushings, and probably need to do some work inside my door on the linkage.
All I can suggest to you if you don't have any noticeable binding to fix, keep the door latch lubricated as best you can.

I doubt the handle is the problem. The cable that runs from the handle mechanism to the latch typically stretches over time and makes the door harder to open - so you pull harder to get it to unlatch. Doesnt take long before you break the handle. Try out buying a new door handle cable before welding anything you'll regret. Also, the 1980-1986 trucks (?) came with a METAL inside door handle.
