All of the sudden I just heard a bunch of crunching, clicking, and grinding. No park, no drive no reverse, I'm stuck in neutral, ( all I can hope now is that I'll get my money back. I'm about ready to give up on this thing...
I was dring the truck to school to test the vss and timing in auto and all of the sudden the scrap yard transmission I just put on had 100k on it and just had a huge mechanical failure while driving it, it's like it just slammed into park on its own. Diagnose it before you give up on it. ... or throw parts at it.
Almost certainly that's the transfer case that failed, not the transmission.
luckily all of you guys were right, somehow the transfer case was in between 4h and neutral so the indicator light showed 2h. It needed almost 4 quarts of fluid and, good as new. Since then I have tested the TPS for continuity and it had no gaps seemed alright, what's next

The transfer case was empty of fluid? Now it's working?
Are you asking what's next in line for troubleshooting the transmission?

If it ain't broke, you're not trying hard enough.
Yeah I'm sort of waiting for the T-Case to die but it seems alright and I have another one on hand right now, kust tring to figure out what the next step for diagnosing what the surging is, Just a recap there is a new E4od, e4od harness, vss, plugs, wires, and distributor cap. When I tested the TPS voltage was between .7 and 4.7 volts and had no gaps, the fuel pressure checks out. Right now codes include 172 (running lean). Could a lack of egr cause a lean system.

One of my all time favorite TV shows! I even went to Toronto a couple times to see it filmed. I was in the audience for a Possum Lodge meeting at one of those that I attended.

Fish, I read through the entire thread. It's a bummer you've been fighting this problem.
Have you checked the condition of both of your fuel pumps? You should hear them prime the system when you turn the key to the "run" position. If you can't hear them get a buddy to help why you lie under the tanks and your buddy cycles the key.
You can also check for 12V ignition at the fuel pumps. If the pumps are in the tank you should be able to probe the 12V ignition wire going to the top of the tanks. I'm just not sure what color the wire is.
You mentioned the EGR has been deleted. Why? This almost certainly will cause drivability problems. Is this something you can restore to OE condition easily? The only reason I would delete EGR is if it is an older truck with a carburetor.
