E4O-No (e40d swap thread)

Well the e4od finally quit on my 1996 f350 4x4. Because I don't have the money ( and I know I'm going to get an earfull about this) I'm going to swap a junkyard tranny for it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I need a 1995-1997 e4od out of a 4x4 7.3L, correct? Is there anything else I need to know? Things to check for?

I can't be a whole lot of help, but I can tell you that the closer you get to 97, the better the transmission is. By 97 Ford had worked out almost all the bugs from it and built a pretty good transmission.

Always check fluid color, smell, consistency, etc.

Eh. Debatable. As far as I know there weren't many big changes throughout the PSD e40d life, and the 4r100 that followed it didn't have a great reputation either.
