What is that butterfly on there? Looks like a small radiator petcock valve. Cant say that i have seen one of those on a carter carb. Looks like its being used to plug the choke spring housing? If its clocked in the wrong position, could be keeping your linkage from moving freely. See if you cant replace it with a small bolt or brass plug from the hardware store.
Dave, thank you brother. You've confirmed my suspicions of being improperly hooked up. Im not hooked to the high idle cam by way of the pin that's supposed to conjoin the two.
The great news is that I'm a BMW enthusiast and I've been waiting a longggggg time to fix something with a paper clip.
And my time has come.
Also, what's your air cleaner setup? I've not been able to find one in a JY here and mine is a tad bit mangled and maybe letting in some unfiltered air.

You know I just saw that when taking the picture. When I got the truck 2 years ago I only had it running for a short test drive and on/off trailer into garage to do a frame off rebuild.
IIRC there should be a heat tube from the exhaust manifold to the choke to help heat it, think that is where it went?

The thing on there is junk. I have a member sending me a stock setup. Reminds me I have to check on it.
Hunt junk yards for one or put the word out what you are looking for. Mind was find by a member in a jy.

Good to hear the picture helped.
Now that paper clip........
yep there should be a copper-ish tube coming up from a manifold to help with the choke operation...unless of course you swap to a fully electric choke setup. like anything else...they'll both work well, as long as you maintain them properly.
I'll be headed to the j/y this Friday f.y.I. just in case a fella is looking for something in particular.
