2017 trailer brake controller

Have a 17 king ranch with the 6.2. Towed my travel trailer just to test it out for a few miles. Trailer is 26 foot dry 5200lbs. Loaded I'm about 6k. Had a 2011 king ranch with the 6.7 and it had the ford trailer brake controller. With my 2011 I ran 6.5 gain and never changed from that. With my new truck I set it at 6.5 as well and I could feel the trailer brakes kind of pulsating. Does that mean I need to turn down the trailer brake controller or go up higher?

The 2017 has three levels plus the settings. Yours may be set on low. I run mine at medium 5.5, but every trailer/truck combination is different.

It sounds like you need to increase yours. Did it stop the truck when you manually engaged the trailer brakes?

When set correctly you should not feel the trailer braking.

I'm still dialing mine in and I can feel mine braking. In fact, it seems like engaging the brakes (through the pedal) feels like the front of the trailer is dipping down. So maybe I have it set a bit too high.

I think it is too high. I can't feel my fiver braking at all. The whole purpose of the modern brake controllers was to get away from the feel of the trailer leading the truck brakes while braking, although I know some folks prefer that feel.

Wonder if the trailer is dipping down, does that also mean or perhaps indicate that the rear axle brakes may not be doing the job as well? Just a though worth looking into.

That's something I'll have to check. That could be fun. (NOT!)

My 2015 F-250 was originally setup for a Fifth Wheel
I bought it to pull 27' Travel Trailer. I don't know how to adjust it to a different trailer? Should I take it to a Ford Dealer with trailer attached for a different setting?
Thus far I have not noticed anything wrong with braking w TT
Thanks for any advice

In your owners manual look at the towing section starting on page 189 it explains everything you want to know.
If you don't have one they can be downloaded here...

How does the weight of the fiver compare to the tt? It may not be necessary to do anything. I doubt very much a Ford dealership is going to tow your fiver around and adjust the TBC. At least I never heard of anybody doing that routinely. As scaprat said, it is all right in the owner's manual.
