Hey guys I'm having a problem getting my 4x4 to engage on my 93 f150. I just bought it a couple of months ago and have not been able to get it to engage. The lights on the push button do not come on and neither do the dash 4x4 indicators. I found 3 wires coming from the transfer case motor that were cut and looked like someone tried to tape them. They were separate from the wiring harness. I reattached them but still no change. Does anyone know what these wires do or have any advice???
Is there power to those wires at the transfer case? My guess is that the shift motor is seized up but don't just replace it without doing any diagnostic tests.
Need pictures to be able to help you with this. Show us the wires and where they go. Off the top of my head you will have these wires going into the case:
2 motor leads
1 clutch coil lead
3 (4? 5?) position encoder leads
1 ground lead
I think that's correct. My Bronco II and my F-150 both came with electric shift transfer cases. The F-150 I swapped to manual but the B2 I left electric and sure enough it lost the position feedback signal one day when I needed the 4x4. Got it home and wired the shift motor direct to a rotary switch... end of problem.
Also the 4x4 control module has diagnostic capabilities. You'll have to search for how to do it but basically you pull a couple plugs out of it then mash the self-test button and see what the little red light on the side does in response.
