1973 C700 Vin Location

Hello All!
I know of the Standard vin location in the door. But California requires 2. Any ideas where to look for a second one?
Thanks.

VIN on Warranty Plate known as the Warranty Number. FoMoCo said it was not for title or registration purposes, because it was too EZ to change.

1963/79 all trucks except school busses and open Drive-Away's: Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch.

People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.

CA DMV registered vehicles by their hidden frame VIN .. not by VIN's stamped on Warranty Plates.

The right front frame rail behind the front cab mount. There may NOT be a second one stamped where the alternator would generally be on the right front frame rail as there is on light duties.. Ford sometimes got sloppy here so we dont expect to find two on every medium duty... BUT.. good luck.. unless you get a good experienced dmv inspector or an experienced LEO they might not know this. I know the inspector at my DMV here in Redding is untrained.. and I had to walk her through my SPCNS inspection.. I asked her if CHP trained her and she said she had no formal training. Some of the inspectors do get trained..some do not.. its a job.. stamp and pay...

I knew right away by the way she was dressed there wasnt going to be any real inspection.

Your VIN will have a star on both ends of the vin.. this star is harder to replicate but crooks do it manually and do a good job that is hard to spot with the naked eye

We dont use door plates..for the reason Bill stated... they are not vin numbers for verification.. we use door plates to confirm the frame number..and generally determine what the truck is supposed to be

Find your vin and have it nice and clean for the inspector and that will go a long way to making your registration process easier. If we have to scrape through grease dirt and rust the process slows down exponentially. Protect your vin and dont let it get damaged .. some get worn over time for a variety of reasons...

Dont be afraid to tell them where it is and that you have the area ready for their verification. This lets them know you really looked at your truck

We also use other methods I wont reveal in open forum but there are other ways to confirm the truck is what it is alleged to be.. on medium duties there is less theft.. on light duties they occur all the time with hacked up vins

A perfect vin "job" is harder to spot and would require forensic examination

I understand this isnt what you are speaking of and this was part of my world as LEO

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Nope I found nothing regarding to the area of the frame on the Right Front wheel Rail but did find manufacturing date codes on the frame lower on the rail. They did verify off the Warranty Plate Vin and Completed Body builders Vin Id Plate. Right or wrong it got completed..Thanks everyone
