Kind of like the idea of the pod and instruments along the side.
What kind of instruments did you install in yours?
Did you have to remove the handle on the driver side?
Just an FYI, Autometer just came to market with a gauge pod that goes underneath the cubby hole in the dash to the right of the steering column. I just got mine and am headed to the body shop to get it painted this week.
I have the pillar gauges, too. Great for "mission=-critical" stuff like Exhaust and Trans temp. The other pod will hold my air pressure gauge and ???
I read in your signature that you have a 4" lift installed on your X. Is that the block lift Ford offers or is it a full suspension lift?
Just was wondering as I am in the market for a lift for my truck. Just that Ford told me that my Factory Warranty will be void if you go with a full suspension lift. So I rather stick with the block lift I guess, as I sure enough can finally put some 35's on....
I have a 4" suspension lift made by Explorer ProComp. It was the least expensive lift I found--about $400 less than the FabTech lift.
For my non-4x4 needs, the less expensive lift was fine.
I also installed 2" taller lift blocks in the back in addition to the lift so that that truck sits level. Without the extra blocks, the truck sagged in the rear. Check with the lift manufacturer and see if the lift you purchase actually levels the truck or not.
Would a digital fuel gauge be possible? I saw a thread on one of these boards about a modification to the fuel tank to get more gas in and was considering that. Can we actually get 44 gallons in the tank without modifying the filler neck?

The manual states that the fuel capacity of the Ford Excursion is 44 gallons, or approximately 166 litres. I left to visit my parents without filling my fuel tank and approximately 5 km from the city, the trip computer was reading 0 km until empty. Needless to say, I was a bit worried. I pulled into the gas station as soon as I arrived and managed to put in 164.5 litres. That is about as close to 44 gallons as I think you can get. (A quick calculation in my head would put that around 43.5 gallons.) It is also nice to know that the trip computer's miles or kilometers until empty is quite accurate.
