We just bought our new Excursion - 2003 V10 4x4 Eddie Bauer, 3.73 limited slip rear end. All I can say is, WOW!! Wish we would have bought this thing years ago. So much more room and towing power, than our Dodge Durango had. Can't wait to hook our 25' Jayco Kiwi trailer up, and take it for a weekend getaway. Our trailer weighs about 5100 lbs loaded, and I'm pretty confident that when we camp in the mountains now, this thing will pull that trailer up any mountain, without breaking a sweat.
Amazing thing is, we have so much more room and power, and still the V10 actually gets pretty much the same mileage that the Durango got. Is the Dodge magnum V8 (5.9) that inefficient, or is the Ford V10 that much more efficient? Who knows, but I'm as happy as a pig in slop!
Now for a question: Only thing I do not like about the V10, is it does not sound as "manly", and does not have the same growl to it, that our old Magnum V8 did (V10 sounds a bit too "refined" for me). Can anyone recommend any exhaust mods/upgrades we can do to it, that will make it have a more aggressive tune/rumble to it, like the old V8s? This is the first time I've owned anything but good 'ol small block V8s, and kind of miss the sound they have.
Other than that, I love this truck! For what we want, it doesn't get any better than this!
I totally agree with you... This truck can't get any better. Bought mine in March this year: Limited with a V10 and 4x4. Absolutely a great truck.
My wife actually drives a Durango with a V8 5.9 and sure it sounds quiet different when you put both of them next to each other.
I also was considering upgrading the exhaust system, but still have not found anything I really liked. Let me know as well if you would, just in case you find something "soundly".

I have never owned a Dodge vehicle, but I have been told from those who own them their engines are quite inefficient compared to what Ford and GM are putting out right now.
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/ is a good place to start. They have sound clips of various mufflers on different styles of cars. I personally like the 50 series. Listen to the 50 on the 6.4 Dakota.
