Putting '79 column in '74; Wiring Questions

Getting close on finishing up my frame swap project, putting my '74 F250 2X4 body, box, and drivetrain on a '79 4X4 frame. The '79 steering column wiring will hook into the '74 dash harness but several wire colors between the two do not match up. Can anyone help on whether I need to reroute wires?

Did this on my son's F100 about 3 months ago. We thought it was going to be something really crazy and that the wires wouldn't match up but just trying it out we hooked it up directly as it stood in the turn signals work cancellation all the stuff seem to work so I don't know what to tell you I don't know if somebody switched out the wiring prior to that on the harness itself or what but I'd give it a shot and just plug it in and see what happens first of all and then go from there maybe you'll get lucky too

Thanks for your help. I'll just plug it unchanged and see what happens. It will be awhile yet until everything is connected and I can put juice through the system.

The only wiring in the steering column is the T/S switch.

1973/77 A/T: NSS (same C4/C6/FMX) located on steering column. 1978/79 A/T: NSS located on transmission, C4 uses a different NSS than C6.

We were Kind of worried about having to redo the wiring on these things because I had another 79 column in it that was kind of loose so my son took the one off of his Bronco because he is going to do an Ididit stainless steel one on his build so he didn't need it and he gave it to my other son so that he can use on his 75 . so I don't know seems like it worked now the funny part about it is that on my 75 Bronco I only had a one wire difference between the 79 tilt column that I used on it and the old standard column and by standard I'm just talking about automatic but with no tilt

The wiring harnesses changed after '77. Since it's all torn down now the best thing to do would be to pick the best wiring, the '74 or the '79 and put in all of it. Pretty much nothing will just plug in because most if not all the connectors were changed after '77.

Hey Mark,

The '74 cab and '74 frame wiring is already on the '79 frame. I can't use the '74 2X4 column due to different connection to the 4X4 steering box. The '79 column WILL connect to the '74 dash harness. The problem again is a few differences in wire color codes.
