When I restored Belle I wanted to powder coat the front bumper but it had a slight amount of damage and needed filler so paint it was. Now that she has 5000 miles on her the bumper is getting a lot of chips, I have touched them up several times. The grill which is powder coated is still perfect. At the Prescott Yavapai cruisers car show I won $100.00 worth of powder coating from ARC in Glendale so figured it was a good time to replace the front bumper. Unfortunately the correct bumper for a 52 is only available in chrome so I had to coat a beautiful chrome bumper black. Kudos to ARC for a really nice job, very smooth finish.
New bumper on the right. Old one looks good but chips easy. New one has great gloss and is almost as smooth. Guess I have a spare bumper now.
Grill has 5000 miles with no chips. Hopefully the bumper will do as well.
That is awesome. Great idea. And why do they make chrome/stainless bumpers but not painted? I think they still reproduce stock black bumpers for 53 to 56 trucks?
That looks really good. Do you know how they did it? Blast off the chrome? I'm going to need to do this soon for my 50 F1 and not sure what my options are other than to do what you did. Do you think we can get in contact with whoever is mfg the chrome bumper and have them sell them unchromed?

Don't they sell painted bumpers for you 48 to 52 guys?

I am answering my own question. I just looked in my Mac's catalog that arrived today. They sell a 48 to 52 front bumper made of cold rolled steel for $99.

I looked as well in my new catalog and i think the one you are referring to is plain without the rolled edges like the original.

Sorry for the delay answering, been busy. They told me they blast first to give some tooth. If poor quality chrome they strip first. They just blasted mine.
