Hi everybody.... ok heres what i got. A 01 f250 4x4 with the Sterling 10.5 limited slip rear axle. Im gettin my truck ready for winter changing fluids, goin through the snow plow. ect. And i know my limited slip clutches are worn and need replaced. Well the yukon LSD kit is about $350. And i seen powertrax lockers for about $500. Im thinkin a locker is the way to go because of all the maneuvering I have to do when plowing snow would just wear them clutches out in the LSD a lot faster than normal. What do you think? And majority of the lockers I've looked at they say they're for open diffs. do you know if I could still use those even though I don't already have an open diff? I was mainly looking at powertrax because you don't have to change anything but the center of the differential you don't have to reset up the gears or anything is there any other lockers like that?
I was gonna get a lunchbox but I read too much crap about people getting clunked over to the next lane....and there ain't no way I'm putting up with that. I pretty much decided I would get a Detroit tru-track if I was getting anything but I already have the electronic locker in my 350 and my bronco has a nine inch so I doubt they even make one for that.
Have a Detroit Locker in my F450. I am very happy with it. Buddy has a round barn at his house with a steep grass ramp to drive up into. Stopped with all wheels on wet grass and let the clutch out in low. Truck is 2wd and climbed up. He can not drive up it if is wet in his 4x4 duramax.
I think my new 2wd F450 with the locker will do more than my old F250 4x4.

I've never tried it but heard that if you have a LSD and only one wheel spinning you can step on the brake a little bit and get the other wheel to turn.

This doesn't work I've tried it so many times before I replaced that pos factory ls
Do you homework before buying. A mechanical locker isn't for everyone. Definitely adds more traction and less parts to wear out but the handling characteristics are lousy when driving a snow covered road at speed. If you're set on a locker get one. A lunch box style won't fit in a limited slip carrier. That leaves you with replacing the clutches in you current one or pull the carrier. If you pull the carrier scrap the lunch box idea and get new unit whether it's a true locker or a helical style limited slip like a trutrac that has no clutches to wear out. If if want to keep the factory stuff, restack the clutches so it alternates friction and steel rather than how the factory does it. It will grip harder. Some will argue there's less engagement of the steels on the axle that way but I have never heard of it failing.
