I recently pulled off this swap. I posted pics in another thread, and it was suggested I do a write up. I like doing write-ups, but...
I have another idea: I'll post pics and tech advice on the swap based on questions posted by those that might also want to do this. I will also consider doing the rear doors and adding info on those.
Why do this?
-Newer switches that will be easier to get for those keeping their rig "forever".
-wider arm rests
-bigger/better grab handle on inside (IMHO)
-much more storage in door
-updated mirror adjust with the proper space for power fold mirror addition.
-more insulation in the door panels (back side)
Drawbacks: I lost my "auto- down" feature on my driver's side window, and the little night-light built into the door panel. I am not too disappointed with that.
I have the wiring matchup, and I will post that here soon. I did paint my panels to match my interior, but the tan in the 08+ is very close to medium parchment. Only slightly lighter.
You need:
-the door panels
-2 extra screws on each side (get these when you get your panels!)
-the black trim pieces that go behind the interior door pull handles (new one is different)
-the little black triangle trim panels in the front corner of the windows (by the mirror attachment bolts)
-the harness from the 08+ door (cut the whole thing out and take it with you!)
-and the door/window/mirror switches and bezels.
NOTE: you will not use the gray (driver's side-auto down) and light blue (panel illumination 12v) wires off your old window switches. Cap those off, as there is no where to route them into the 08+ door/switch module. There will be an extra ground wire (black) on each side. Double it up with another ground, or cap it off. The light blue wires carry 12v with the key on, so MAKE SURE you take care with those.
I don't have the power fold wiring, so I can't speak for what that entails. I am pretty sure others have had to buy the harness and run all new wires for that.
