I have a 91 F150, 5.8, E4OD, 145,000 Miles.
had the transmission rebuilt last march. All the updated parts, new Ford shift module. Very shortly after, started having shift problems, among others. Repaired the EGR faults, cleaned all grounds, replaced the TPS and pigtail. Would clear the codes, run couple days back to the same. Code's 63, 4-3 shift, and 69, 3-4 shift. Had OEM ECU, replaced with reman from O'Reilly auto. Ran good, shifted perfect for a week, codes again, only no CEL. Warrantied the ECU, got 1.5 weeks, back to the same.Took back to the transmission shop, they found no problems. Ordered another ECU. Truck is a daily driver, and most days shifts as should, when it does act up, drive it manually. I am hoping this next ECU fixes it, 3rd times a charm! Any help, ideas, suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What is a shift module? Never heard of it. What does it do?
Most likely you have a sticking 3-4 shift valve in the valve body. No number of new computers is going to fix that.
Must have been worded wrong from the build shop. Solenoid Assembly I think is what he meant. When I had it checked, they said nothing was wrong. Just put another ECU in yesterday, same problems. So, you are probably right about that. Got a couple other ideas from an e4od driver, has 3 of them in the same year range. TPS, which is new, and good, no codes. Transmission range sensor. Will check with the build shop to see if they replaced. Speed sensor on rear diff. Probably will replace the speed sensor, just so I know its good.
Thanks for the response!
