Does anyone know why unplugging my oil temp sensor will make my truck run normal again. Runs great until it warms up, then like clockwork it idles rough and smokes white, timing retards way too far and this is only at idle, a little bit of throttle and it clears up. Only thing that will make it go away is unplugging the oil temp sensor. I did replace it even though the readings seemed fine. Just wondering what that will eliminate as far as inputs to the computer to return the timing back to normal. Thanks

is it a ford sensor? I used an aftermarket oil temp sensor (Siemens) and it caused terrible surging, red oil temp alarm, and fan constantly running. I will say I did replace it with a Napa sensor and everything is fine but I recommend Ford. My sensor also btw had perfect cold soak readings. It only failed in the upper end of the scale, so cold soak numbers didn't matter. I had a fun time trying to figure it out ( wouldnt have been so bad had I listened to the guys on here sooner).
I replaced it with a ford factory sensor but with no luck. I'm just not sure why unplugging it makes it clear up. It kinda seems like it rules out anything mechanical such as injectors or high pressure oil. Just wondering what that sensor inputs to the computer to change the timing of the truck at idle. I'll check the sensor readings again at all operating ranges to see if there is something I missed.
Awesome job. I'm glad you got your truck fixed. It's the very thing I've suspected also. I guess if you come across an ecm on ebay that's $40 you might wanna steer clear. It's nice to see a thread end with a definate answer on what solved the issue. I will probably get around to putting an ecm in before the snow flies here and I will post weather it was my fix or not. I'm sure it will be. Thanks for the info

EH? ? ?? ???? Me thinks someone posted in the wrong subject post.
Suggest that OP swap the OIL temp sensor with the COOLANT temp sensor and see what happens...Both same P/N
