this is the reason i dont like dark/black dash's to much in a vehicle darker the color the more heat it soaks up an drys the plastic out to point of becoming horribly brittle i tend to lean to greys or use one of those reflective sheets you put up to your windshield to block the UV from drying out the dash
Yeah I don't know what's changed in plastic technology in the last 35 years but I had a 69 GTO with parchment interior the seat backs and sides where so baked you could scratch your name in them I found a 71 Lemans in the woods with no glass who knows how long it had been sitting there black interior and the seat trim was like new.
I don't think sun and uv exposure get the credit in this case. My ex has been garage kept for all but two years of it's life. The parts cracking on mine are underneath where there is no exposure but rather it is cracking where there is stress from components like the vents or clips that hold it on, or under the head unit. The top of the dash where the sun hits is grey on mine though.
One last difference (I didn't see it mentioned).
The SuperDuty dash (based on Cab style) will ALSO have a passenger side airbag disable switch (standard cab, has no backseat for the baby - hence a switch is required). The excursion does *NOT* have the wiring for that switch either.
