My husbands truck is a 1999 F-350 7.3L Diesel. With approx 180,000 miles. We are now on our second computer.
The first one went out and it sat at the mechanics for 53 days. This is a mechanic that everyone in town swears by and get offended that we will not even take a weedeater there to be fixed now. They gave excuse after excuse and would not return calls until we finally got the truck back and it was fixed. That was a couple years ago.
Last week we took the truck to have the emergency brake cable replaced. Apparently the dude pulled the computer and never unhooked the batteries. I have no idea if that is relavent, but 5 days later the truck would not crank. It gave the same errors that the computer did. He repeatedly disconnected the batteries, reset it. It finally gave a "wait to start" light, then all power died.
It is just like the computer is toast again. He pulled the computer and now we have to replace it (he bent the pins as it was jammed in there from the emergency brake guys with grease all over it and they added some sort of sealer to it). The problem is we cannot find one. Everywhere is out of stock. Parts geek is out of stock. I cannot find it on Rock Auto. I found a few on random websites but I am afraid to order from them. He even went to Autozone and Advance to get it and they are out of stock.
There is no reason to go back to the mechanic that did the brake cable because we all know it will not be their fault.
Does anyone know any after market sites that have it that are safe to use?
This is a classic case for why we have to work on our trucks ourselves, sorry to hear of the hassle. There are quite a few of them on fleabay and you sort of take your chances there but if there is a problem fleabay will help you resolve it. Some of those vendors repair them too. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...e+pcm&_sacat=0
What is done is done. I replaced the E-brake cable on my truck myself and did not remove the computer. I also have a manual transmission truck, did not remove the clutch pedal either. The guys at the shop may be trusted, but they did not do right by you or your truck.
You might try some of the tuners for a PCM. Places like DP or Swamps may be able to help you out.
I had some troubles with my clutch recently. Took the truck to a "trusted local transmission shop" that everyone swears by around my area. I took the master tech for a test drive and he claimed "I have never heard that noise before". I talked to him a few more moments and just did not feel right about what he was saying. I left the truck with him, but the next morning first thing I called and said I was coming to pick it up.
He was slammed busy anyway and I ended up getting the truck to a gentleman on here that knew exactly how to fix the truck.
I wish you the best of luck in your search for a new PCM.
Is it an auto or manual, we need that information. These PCM's will work on an AUTOMATIC, 1999. It only letting me do 1 attachment. So I'll trying another post other picture.
I tried SIA ELECTRONICS when my PCM was damaged. I called them and discuss the problem they were very confident they could fix it. I sent it in, 6 days later I got a call back stating they could not fix it and wanted to know if I want them to send it back. I asked them to ship it back to me and they did. I thought I was out $180. Three days later my PayPal account was credited back 165, so they did a diagnostic and shipped it back for less than $13, I was very impressed.

I called Ford regarding a PCM and they could get me one but it was $800. I ended up using a company called Module Experts out of FL. Chris was a very smooth talker when he was trying to get my business. He told me they had a turnaround of 5 to 7 business days. I got my first PCM back from them and the truck with turn over but would not start. He told me I needed a new IDM. I told him he was full of crap and my original PCM started the truck just fine. I sent their fixed PCM back to them and got a second one. And that one has been running fine since last July. Although it is an option I probably would not use them again. I was calling every other day to find out where my PCM was and what the problem was.
I was thinking about this on the way home from work today and thought to myself "if the shop broke the PCM, they should fix it".
If I got my truck back with a bad PCM because it was improperly removed and bent pins because some knuckle head could not figure out it takes time instead of force, then they should pay for it.
You drove the truck into the shop, you should be able to drive out. Talk about legal action if need be.

I second this but I don't know if you'll get anywhere on it. It seems like the consumer (especially me) always gets the short end of things. Now, you KNOW that the garage is going to deny their responsibility and the only hope would be small claims court. Maybe Judge Judy...
Another thing to consider is that it might just be easier for the owner to bite the bullet because this is the local "trusted mechanic". May not be worth making waves by rocking the boat so to speak.
Bad situation no matter how you look at it, but I wish you the best of luck in finding a working PCM.
