New Computer - No Viruses

Hello, I recently acquired a 1962 F100. Will be checking out the old 292 Y block to see what's up with it. I'm wondering what newer Ford engine will bolt up to the old bell housing. Truck has a 4-speed manual.
I bought a mac and have had no viruses for over six years.

I don't think I have a virus but my home computer took a dump on this morning. It was working fine but the internet connection wasn't working so I took steps to reboot it and when I re-started my computer the computer wouldn't work, something about a system/config, or something file being corrupted. What a pain, it really cut into my weekend internet surfing. If I can't get it going I'll have to take it in the computer shop to have it looked at. Fortunately, I have my shop computer to look up the problem and stop in here for a short visit.

It's extremely important that you all ensure that you update your anti-virus definitions frequently.
The computer I use for all my email and internet surfing is running OpenSuSE Linux. I have been using Linux since about 1999 now and will never go back to using Windows because of the security problems endemic to Windows.
I do have a windows computer that I use with Quicken. It is not used on the internet and it NEVER is used for email.
I also use AVG antivirus (on the windows computer) and it updates every time I turn it on. The best good thing about AVG is that it's completely free for non-commercial use.
I don't use any sort of anti-virus on this computer I'm using now. It's mostly not needed when using Linux http://librenix.com/?inode=21
Cheers,
Rick

I've been using the Norton products since the early 80's - Have never had a software problem that couldn't be cleared/cleaned up within a few hours.
This stuff blew thru the Norton which was on twice a day update and then used it to fight all efforts. It was like playing chess - I would make a move to wipe out a virus file and it would let loose another barrage. At one point it disassociated all my exe and bat files plus all drives but the C drive and then shut off the computer. even the Geek Squad was afraid of the machine.

If you want your old computer to work again it look like you will have to do a complete wipe and re-install.
Download this http://www.dban.org/ and burn it on a floppy or CD. The instructions tell you how to get it to be a bootable disk and it's FREE.
Turn on your computer just long enough to get the CD drive open and put in the CD then turn it off. If you have a floppy you don't even need to turn it on. Start up the computer again and it starts the process. Follow the easy instructions and it gives you a completely virgin hard drive. You wont have to fight the virus because it never gets a chance to wake up.
Pop in your Windows CD and start the install process.
The computer should be back to exactly how it was when you bought it.
WARNING: This will COMPLETELY WIPE your computer of anything and everything. Nothing will be left on it at all.
Good luck if you go this rout and pm me if you have any questions.

My computer at work picks up bugs all the dang time. You'd think a corporate machine would be better protected! I run Avast! anti-virus on all my personal machines and I love it! It auto-updates and I've never had an issue. It has picked up and halted several attacks. The best part: The home version is FREE!!! I hate paying for stuff if I don't have to. Check it out!
