Okay just spent an hour fishing for a fix on my problem. My problem id the door dinger dings when ever the door is open,, key in or out. I would just disconnect the switch wires on the door latch mechanism but I don't want to loose my dome light. I don't think it would help to put the tape on the tab in the tumbler because it dings even with the key out. I have run the system thru my head so many times that I'm now can't think straight. I'm down to thinking there is a problem with another sensor. It will shut off when I turn the truck on or shut the door. So it seems to be working correctly but it is NOT! It dings as soon as I open the door with NO KEY IN switch.
Help, please.
Pop off the fuse panel cover, and look for a brown connector on the pass. side of the steering column with a black/pink tracer wire. Cut it, or remove the pin from the connector(what I did) and no more door chime.
It's integrated, and part of the GEM last I checked, but, it is easliy disabled. The blk/pink wire is the ground signal from the key in
sensor that arms the chime. Cut it, and the chime ain't doin nothin...
This works on 99,2000 and 02-04 S/D's, no word on the 05's yet, and it seems there is no way to disable it on an 01, even if you cut the blk/pk wire.
ALSO : the switch is in the door latch, spray it down with lube, helped on mine
Thanks Mike1. I actually swapped out the door latch with another one that still made the ding go dong. lol. so I put my original back in. I lubed it up well. I just got back in from closing up shop till later when it cools down. I will look for the black w/pink tracer wire this afternoon. If it works, will it only stop the dinger, leaving the dome light on?
Mike1, you did see in my first post that the dinger rings when the key is NOT in the switch, I hope. This was what had me thinking the bl w/pnk tracer wire trick might not work.
I would replace the switches in the door latches and put in a new ignition tumbler. If that's to expensive, then hose out the drivers door latch with electric contact cleaner, let it dry or blow out with air, then lube generously with Tri-flow or slilcon spray. Same with the ignition tumbler. I have done this on most of mine and other Ford trucks newer than 99.

Well, I did it Mike1 thanks, I pulled the plug and removed the pin, all back together. It is so nice opening my door and not hearing that constant ding ding ding!
