So in the near future I'll be pulling my E4OD to replace it with a fresh and beefier unit. While the trans is out I'd like to take advantage of that opportunity to tackle any other jobs that are made easier by the trans being out of the way. I'll renew the engine rear main seal for sure, but what else?
My truck is virtually stock with 155k, so I'm considering a 4" exhaust at the time. Are up-pipes easier to replace? What about a non-EBPV turbo base- maybe it makes little difference, but I figured I'd get the parts early if I thought it'd help.
If you are still running the stock flat downpipe, replace it with the 3"one from Diamond Eye. The uppies are easier to get to with the tranny out, and if the coin is available get the bellowed ones. Clay at Riffraff Diesel has both items.
I have a fleet of over 50 psd trucks that I work on, I have never changed a rear main seal.
if it isn't leaking leave it. if you think it is leaking check the top of the engine.
bellowed up pipes from Clay at Riff Raff diesel.
3 inch down pipe.
Have to 2nd both ideas. It isn't your rear main, but a set up bellowed up-pipes would be a good idea while you are there. These are the best I have used in the link below.
