Angry Transmission replacement

I was hoping I wouldn't have to make this post but I knew it'd happen sooner or later. My trans went and is leaking like crazy from what I'm assuming is the torque converter. It had issues like shifting straight from 2nd to 4th and would drop into neutral at highway speed.

I'm hoping a new TC will fix my issues but i'll have to wait and see what the experts say when I get it towed to a shop. If I need a new trans, what is the best BUDGET MINDED option? I plan on running more power than stock so a beefier trans is preferred. Not looking to spend over 2k on the trans itself so if anyone could point me to a good trans that would be wonderful.

Thanks!

It's not your TC, it's the converter seal. This is caused by overheating and is pretty common. You *may* be able to get away with just replacing the seal (trans must be R&R'd for this, tho). Be sure to use a seal that has black or blue rubber, not gray like the OEM one.

Well it's out of my hands now. My dad told me "I'm tired of Your big ol POS sitting in my driveway" so it's getting towed to a trans shop later today. Are there any cheap upgrades I can have them do while they have the trans apart? I would like to keep it all under $2250 but I don't know how realistic that is.

Note: the transmission grinds super loud when put in park

It's kind of out of our hands now. This is a conversation you need to be having with the shop.

The biggest favor you can do for any automatic trans is keeping it cool. A good place to start is by adding an oil cooler and temperature gauge. Since it's torn apart already, have your shop install a shift kit in it as well. Just a mild one will do, something to firm up the sad excuse of a "shift" that it has from the factory. Although you can certainly set it up for performance or towing if desired. The performance/towing shift kits just let it hold each gear a bit longer and it shifts harder than just the mild kit. By changing gears faster, you reduce slippage and therefore heat and wear.

None of the above upgrades are particularly expensive.
