My '93 in PHX is on long-term "borrow" to a buddy of mine. I don't live there anymore and he needs a ride, so he's been using it. In the last few months, she's been leaking oil like crazy. The shop he took it to claims that the rear main and the front tranny seal are BOTH leaking. Granted, I'm sure it's possible, and we will get a 2nd and 3rd opinion before anyone replaces both, but ... how possible is it that we're actually looking at that?
I'll probably arrange to have the Bronc taken to a shop that I trust. So, while it's in getting new seals for the actual leaks, is there any PM I should have done? She had a lot of catch-up MX and PM done in 2003, and has since been driven about 5000 miles. I want this truck to see 200,000 miles or more.
It does not happen often that both go bad at the same time, but it's possible. If it is the rear main or the front trans seal (one not both) I would replace both while the trans is pulled (that is what I do). Most of the labor cost for replacing either is for dropping the trans and re-installing it.
