Particulate filter

How much should I expect to pay to replace the particulate filter in my 2008 F250 Super Duty? The dealer told me the part was $1900 and labor around $600.

The part is not out of line I don't think. However the labor is a bit high. If I were you, I'd do that bit myself. Or if you've got a friend who'll do it, go that route. It's just not that hard to slap a new DPF filter under the truck. Everything is bolt-on/off. The only thing you need to be a little careful with is the gasket that sits between the DOC & DPF filter flanges.

I would probably check with a shop that does diesel tuning to do the swap. I know most people are able to take DPFs off in about an hour. Assuming the sensors are ok, it's really only a few bolts.

Looking on ebay for just a minute, there are used ones for 325 and a high performance one for 1799. Having a 325 one cleaned would still be far less than 1900.

If they don't test in your area, you can also consider taking it off and retuning for far less than 2500.

well, my 2010 with 90k miles has frozen connections. meaning...I can take all the bolts off from end to end and drive around and everything stays put. I tried tourching, banging, all the solvents, etc.

600 bucks is a deal.

I still cant get it off and will probally have to sawsaw it.

fritz, what connections are frozen? The clamps? If you were able to get all the bolts/nuts off...everything should come out. The whole exhaust system sort of presses against each other and hold everything in place anyway.

A diesel shop that I use, and dealer, want roughly the same prices for DPF and labor here in MI. I had it all deleted. Of course MI doesn't have emissions testing.

a. the joint between the DPF and CAT is frozen. all bolts removed and banged / toruched away and no luck.

b. the down pipe connection to the cat can be seperated

c. the pipe out of the DPF into the next section is frozen. nut for clamp is off, clamp comes off...but it looks like there some interwoven tabs that are frozen together. heat, baning, no luck.

I will probally have to cut this all apart. tried penetrate spray, map gas, banging, etc.

I have another complete exhuast to put back on it....the DPF I have set aside has less than 500 miles on it.

I was hoping to put in a dual DPF/Cat system, but realized I would have to move the fuel tank (convert to chasis cab tank).

Might tackle this project this weekend.

Fritz, just pulled my 2010 emission parts off. Ford had spot welded the pipe together in a few places. Had to grind just a little to get the parts to come loose. Once I did that, it just pulled apart.
