OK, I am going to have to start collecting these numbers together.

So far I have pictures of

F19 on a 6N3G

F26 on a 5N4AT
F27 on a 5N4AU

All done by some kid wearing glasses. Right......

I'm never selling this truck anyway (too sentimental)so its more for my own curiosity. I can tell you that I do not recall my dad ever changing the transmission and I know that I never changed the trans either. With that said... I only started becoming a gear head when I was about 14 or 15 years old . That's 14 or 15 years of the trucks life that's really an unknown to me since I was born in 66 too. Dad is no longer here to ask. I can tell you that none of the red came off with a pressure washer. It was solid.

I know exactly what you are saying. It is a (sorry to tell you now) lead based reddish-orange primer (called red oxide) that they used. VERY tough stuff. The ELPO dip tank was a fairly new painting process (at the time) where the entire item was dipped directly in the primer. The item itself was electrically charged, which opens the pores of the metal, allowing the primer to seep in. The charge is then cut off, closing the pores and the primer is trapped. The excess is literally rinsed off (with water) once the item emerges from the tank, resulting in a smooth finish and excellent coverage. This same process is still in use today by many manufacturers.

We all know how well paint sticks to primer and that is why these yellow markings, both the stencil and the hand painted portions - are so tough to get off. They were likely using lead based paints as well.

Here's some pictures of an NP205 - same stuff on both the inside and outside. The white markings are factory, too. Embedded in the primer and nothing short of a caustic solvent is going to take it off.

FoMoCo would have used yellow spray paint w/a stencil.
Bill, Although I respect your opinion those markings and color are in Fact Original. Similar markings on my 1966 F600 with 5300 miles on it. I have a half dozen trans here with same type markings. Even back in my Mustang, comet cougar, cyclone manual trans they all had same type of markings. Each and every one. I can show you pics of those type markings from over 40yrs ago.

I have a NP435 that looks like new inside and looks exactly like that. Each and every one I have pulled is the same way. I know for a fact they are original.

ALL of the performance versions had actual VIN's on them or at least a partial VIN

Even the 9" rear axle centers had paint markings and date codes except the SPEC ones had just that SPEC in place of date code. They were same color as the NP Transmissions.

To those that say there is no such thing as "Numbers Matching". FALSE! Each and every FoMoCo Vehicle has dates on about every part installed. And one can really tell if its Original or not.

Case in point on a engine block. When each and every components date matches with build date of said vehicle it becomes pretty clear if its been changed or not.

Bingo! So the F and digits we are seeing in hand painted yellow is going to correspond with the tag.

It is in the Textual portion Section 70 Page 4

NEW PROCESS IDENTIFICATION OF FORD PRODUCTION PART NUMBER

Mine with F26 has this on the tags.

With the addition of the tag from Boss it is clear this is just shorthand for which specific NP435 it is.

F19 on a 6N3G - C6TA-7003-G

F26 on a 5N4AT - C5TA-7004-AT
F27 on a 5N4AU - C5TA-7004-AU
F28 on a 5N3M - C5TA-7003-M

Last 3 are the same order as in the MPC - so a trend there.

Anyone else feel free to post your New Process transmission tag and/or case markings if they are still there.

Thanks for confirming that. Someone also sent one from their F600 with an F16 on it. Just 3 before yours in the MPC list so you can sure get a feel for what they were doing. And another with an F25 - Keep PM'ing me any new ones that you find and I'll add them to the list.

F16 on a 5N4AJ - C5TA-7004-AJ

F19 on a 6N3G - C6TA-7003-G

F25 on a 5N3L - C5TA-7003-L
F26 on a 5N4AT - C5TA-7004-AT
F27 on a 5N4AU - C5TA-7004-AU
F28 on a 5N3M - C5TA-7003-M
