Hi,
Is this a Canadian built Ford? The serial numbers de-code differently than those built in the U.S.
On U.S. built Fords, the last letter of the serial number (the first six character part) stands for which assembly plant your truck was built. Unfortunately, we have no "T" assembly plant code here in the U.S.
I've been searching for Canadian built Ford and Mercury de-coding info for some time now, but haven't had any luck.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.
If I were forced to guess, I would guess that the "T" stands for Toronto (maybe)?
Hopefully someone else here might know this for sure.
I have identification info from John's F-Fun Hundreds catalog that covers 1957-60. The Date Code for the letter "T" is June for each of the years 1957-60. So, I would venture an educated guess that your '56 F350 was built in June 1956. This is assuming that Ford didn't completely revamp its identification charting after 1956! (pretty unlikely, knowing Ford, eh?)...
Hi DS59F100,
Unfortunately, they did change in 1957. The Assembly date was located in the bottom right hand corner on the 1956 rating plate.
If you visit their website (couldn't get link to work)
Click on "tech info"
Click on "ID Plate"
Then click on the desired year of rating plate, you can see how the different years de-code.
Kenny, thanks for your info, maybe this will help. My Vin is F35V6G39699. Recks-relics.com decoded my VIN as F350,OHV 8cyl,1956, built in Chicago but said nothing about trucks built in Canada. I've assumed (you know what happens when you do that) that my production code 8H140T meant the truck was built Aug 8, 1956, is that correct? But still nothing about the "T". The mystery continues......
I'm sorry, I thought you were saying that the first number you posted was your serial number, so it looked foreign to me. Please accept my apology. Your vin number info is indeed correct, and please disregard what I mentioned about it possibly being Canadian built.
F35 = (F-350) 1 ton conventional cab
V = 272 c.i.d. o.h.v. V-8
6 = 1956 model year
G = Chicago assembly plant
39699 = Sequential production number
Date code:
8 = 8th day of the month
H = August (of second year) which would be 1956
140 = 140th unit built that day
Sorry, I still don't know what the "T" at the end of the date code stands for.
I hope I'm not going to change the subject too much but I also have a 1956 truck (an F-250) and I'd like to decode my production code as well. It's 12L-1262P-31. After searching around a lot I've come up with the following:
12L = Built on day 12 of November
1262P = ???
31 = Cincinnati District
First of all, is this correct so far? Second, can anyone tell me about the middle set of digits? Third, why is my code so different from drbailey's F-350?
Any help appreciated and I'm hoping we may be able to figure out drbailey's code at the same time.
