2010 F350 in my shop today. so, before dismantling the entire top of the motor for this inbred oil cooler job, is there anything else responsible for the P012 engine oil temp issue? it throws the wrench icon and cuts power and i pulled the P012F code.
thanks!!
Thermostats on those engines are notorious for failure too. The replacements are updated, but the ones I've replaced have usually set a P00B7 in continuous memory, which will also put the engine into reduced power mode and throw the wrench light, just as well as P012F. Have you monitored your ECT and EOT temps?
thanks! no havnt monitored them individually. the truck does not have the proper gauges, but my otc scanner does live data. not sure if it will do egt though. I can monitor coolant temp.
but if stat was bad it would overheat coolant. this code i believe indicates engine oil temp has risen to within 15 degrees of coolant temp. ill monitor coolant temp but i think oil temp is the problem...
ill hook it up and give it a try. thanks for help guys. ill keep you posted. Im waiting for a quote from a local shop, but the time lapse video on youtube it looks like a long tedious job. not hard, just lots of pieces and time consuming. anyone here actually done this job?

Are you the owner of the truck, or the one doing the work? Either way, as you can clearly see, it is a major undertaking. Not a cheap repair by any means.
My friends truck. He has a tractor/farm shop, experienced mechanic. I just diagnosed for him since he is not internet savvy.
i am an ex caterpillar mechanic and have a shop as well, but he is retired and can handle it easily.
