Cool. He has 2, one is the 4x4 and the other is a 2 wheel drive. I'll research this. Thank for the info Franklin.
But if I'm reading what you wrote earlier, both of his trannies are 2WD units: one from a 2WD truck, the other from a 4WD "highboy" with a divorced transfer case. You need a trans from a 4WD truck that did not have a divorced transfer case.
That is probably correct, but my truck has an NP435 after all of this ! I don't know if there were delays between my update post and your post here....
NumberDummy, I really appreciate you typing out the info on the shifter tower pins. I had actually saved your response to someone from an older discussion on this very matter, so I will get new pins before I tear it apart.
The pins aren't the problem, the condition of the shift lever retainer cap is the problem, if one or both of the notches have torn out.
I've listed the shift lever retainer cap (B8T-7220-D) dozens of times here on FTE, in fact, it was the first part number I typed.
I don't recall ever selling the pins while working Ford parts counters and...no member of FTE has ever asked me about them.

Sorry, I thought your goal was to get a new trans because there was something wrong with yours, not just to end up with an NP435.
If you are going to tear your 4x4 np435 trans apart, and possibly need some hard parts, you can certainly buy one of those 2wd 435's for cheap and tear them apart for parts. Most of the parts in the 2wd trans will work in the 4x4 trans, all except the rear housing and rear output shaft and other small pieces back there. The problem is the 2wd trans needs to be torn completely down to convert it for 4x4 use, so it's not a easy conversion.
