shaved cowl vent

any of you guys shaved the cowl on a bump or have any pics of it done? i'm thinking of doing it on my truck since i'm going to be using an aftermarket ac and as far as I know, they don't draw fresh air from outside.

Fresh air heater draws air in from the outside, so if you shave the cowl vent, no more heated fresh air.

Does your truck have fresh air vents in the kick panels? If so, guess where the air comes from.

Is the aftermarket A/C a recirculating type? If not...

yeah I know where the vents get the fresh air from, thanks.

the aftermarket air is recirculating so...

I bought two Bumpsides new (1968 F250 Ranger & 1971 F100 Ranger XLT), didn't shave the cowl on either.

The '68 was t-boned by a drunk while parked at the end of a cul-de-sac, sold the '71 in 1979.

There wouldn't be as much surface opening to draw air in but, there is an opening (drain slot) in the bottom of the air vent plenum area inside the front wheel well.

Drain hole seen in left side wheel well for the plenum on the drivers side air vent.

I suppose if you were creative enough, you could do something with the oval rubber plug in the plenum to allow air to come in through it and keep the water out.

Oval rubber plug seen in the left front wheel well.

Same rubber plug seen from inside the drivers air vent.

Yeah, that looks nice and to clear up the ambiguity; you do not need the the cowl "air" for an aftermarket A/C system.

I capped the kick panel holes in mine then I cut out the bottom of the cowl basin where leaves and trash build up and cause corrosion. Now the air just flows down and out of the fender.

I'm shaving the cowl and wipers on my truck, but I don't have any good pics. I bought a panel from Mod Shop Inc.https://modshopinc.net/store/index.p...fdsca3gg0oque5
