Radio gone wild

Last week the steering wheel radio control stopped working. The Sync buttons worked fine and all of the cruise control buttons worked fine. After a quick google search I see that it's common for the buttons to go bad. I ordered new Motorcraft buttons and installed them and everything worked again. A few days later on my way home from a 600 mile road trip after stopping for gas the same buttons stopped working again. They were working fine just before I stopped as I used them to turn the radio down as I pulled into the gas station. I get back on the road and go to turn the radio back up and they no longer work. A few more miles down the road my radio starts turning the volume down by itself. The rest of the way home it randomly does so. I turn it back up with the **** on the dash and it may be ok for an hour, it may turn back down immediately. I pulled the airbag back out when I got back home and re-checked the connection at the buttons and for pinched wires. All looks good. On my 15 mile drive to work this morning it turned itself down once. I'm looking for advice on what I should check next to solve this problem.

My driver side sound will periodically seem to go away, I pretty much just use AM/FM radio. I need to try playing some sounds off a DVD or thumb drive and see if it reoccurs. I am in a poor location for radio signals.

That sounds like a faulty clock spring.

I was having that problem. Water was getting into the speaker connector. I took the connectors out of the equation and they work great now.

Where are the speaker connectors located that are getting wet?
