1956 F-100 Aftermarket Radios?...

Greetings- have stock dash with no original radio opening. Seeing I gave up smoking few years ago, that ash tray opening is screaming for a radio. Any such thing out there that I missed? Or, slick little slim, universal unit to fit under lower dash edge? Am not inclined to do dash cuttings...
Thanks for any leads here…John H.

The stock radio for 53 to 56 was round. The dealer had to cut a hole in the dash next to the ashtray to put the radio in. I once bought a stock radio but did not want to cut a hole in the dash for an AM radio where in our mountains I would get one station. Yes, I known I could have done an FM conversion but still didn't want to cut up the dash.

Sounds like Dennis has a good one for you.

Thanks for responses- FirstRider plans to send me some info on unit later this week. Also, an ebay store has some with variable/adj face-plates, **** locations, etc. I'm going to see any might be adaptable to ash tray opening... so stay tuned...jh

Interested to see what you come up with. I was thinking about a remote with Bluetooth as I listen to audio books and pandora a lot.

with the glovebox fiberboard removed there should be load of room for any radio you chose. also a number of marine radios have remote control panel.

Kinter makes a number of AM/FM MP3 players that will fit in the ashtray slot. I use one in the garage with a pair of cheap bookshelf speakers. Motorcycle guys swear by them. Oh did I mention that they cost around $20...check them out on ebay or Amazon.

Thanks for all the replies. First, wanting a radio, AM/FM,-(would even consider it a bonus if it had a cassette player) - easy reach of driver- no glove box ditties.
For some reason- only can find Kinters with FM tuner - no AM tuners.
No AM- no REAL MAN'S Radio!!
AutoSound & RetroSound have decent offerings with a nice surface-mount control pieces. bjmayberry might check that -
I'll get back - when I get new info.
Please, just start a new thread if you want to harass me about cassette players or AM radios... just havin' fun... peace brothers... jh

I can appreciate not wanting to cut holes in an original dash if its lasted this long without molestation. Another option would be a
marine radio enclosure marine radio enclosure
. can be mounted to the sill under the dash and easily removed for car shows, plus you can fit any tape deck you please

Here is a photo of a friend's truck where he used a kit to relocate the removable faceplate from a modern head unit. The rest of the head unit is under the driver's seat, as I recall he can insert and retract CDs while seated.

Well, thanks for all the input, guys, but back to square one on this. Actually, looked thru old radios I had and did find a couple with small, compact fronts that had cassette players. I'll probably just mount one of these under dash or dare myself to cut holes next to ash tray opening for control shafts.
Next up- chk new tread for tailights... Best to you all... jh
