As for finding a radio that fits into the stock hole...I think there are a couple of solid state am/fm radios that were made out of old stock tube radios. They're quite pricey and hard to find though.
I plan on putting my radio in the glove box. You will loose a little space in there and its a little hard to get to, but sure looks better! My 65 has made it 40 years without anyone hacking the dash, its never had one, also no radio grille cut into the top of the dash, kinda strange since it is a custom cab.
No radio fits the stock holes other than the Ford AM one. There are companies that will convert the guts of your radio to AM/FM but it's expensive.
Put one in the glovebox or under the seat. I wish I could strangle the guy that cut up my dash to install a Sparkomatic radio...
If you dont have a grille on the top center of the dash pad, there is no speaker....this is the only place they were put...if you have an original radio delete truck...I wouldnt dare cut hole one in it....I cringe at the thought....I would try to put in in glovebox....and put speakers behind seat .
