From reading previous posts about the IAC valve I attributed the whining/howling noise coming from under the hood to be caused by a defective valve and went to the local ford dealer to order a replacement. The quoted price (for part only) was a shocking $250 whereas I had been led to believe from other contributors to this board that they paid somewhere in the range from $50-$100.
Since we do not have a local Mazda dealer I called the nearest one out of town and was quoted $130. When I aked both dealers about the price difference and whether they were indeed quoting on the same item I couldn't get a straight answer.
Does anyone know whether the ford ranger and mazda b4000 parts are the same and interchangeable or what, if any , differences there are? The Napa website lists different numbers for the IAC valves for ford and mazda, leading me to suspect that the valves might be different.
Can't think of any reason why an IAC valve would be different on a B4000 engine....why not go to Napa and pay about 60 bucks and tell them you want one for a '97 4.0L Ranger, then compare the one you get with the one on your engine...should be the same thing. If so, put it on, if not, bring it back...Napa is usually pretty good about that.
