Scanner and diagnostic tool?
I have a Innova 3100abs. Which is good for reading and clearing codes, looking at freeze frame data.
I am trying to find an inexpensive tool that will read out live date, preferably in graph form, to aid in troubleshooting problems.
Looked at the AutoEnginuity's Scan Tool and it looks promising but wondering if you need to buy all the expansion packs also.
Anyone have experience with other tools, computer based or stand alone, that don't cost thousands of dollars to own or maintain?
Thanks.
To make it work, you need a bluetooth USB adapter (you can find them on Amazon).
I use one, but it takes some doing, What I do is log several parameters while I'm driving. It makes a .csv file that you can read with excel.
It will also show sensor data live in the form of gauges. It's supposed to have graphs as well, but I've never tried them.
Some notes.
I found that I can use mine with a kindle filre( mine cost me about $30). But to get the app, I had to make a backup of the one I was running on my Nexus tablet and copy the backup to a pc and then to my kindle. ( I forget the file extension, but the info on how to do that kind of thing is on the web).
I was lucky and got a cheap adapter that worked. Apparently not all of them do. The torque guy recommends some, but they were spendy ( and may not be around any more -- who knows).
Since my kindle doesn't have GPS, torque always asks if I want to enable it when I start it --I just tell it no. (Torque pretty much wants to give you a lot of acceleration and speed data based on GPS -- I don't care about that and it made my logs a lot more complicated).
Be prepared to spend time figuring things out -- I still don't have everything the way I want it. If I stop the car (and pull the adapter since it stays powered up) -- I have to cycle power to my tablet before I reconnect to Torque.
I think that there's a forum, but I've never visited it. Also, the help seems to have more information than it used to.
There are other Bluetooth apps that work with OBD2 adapters - Torque just does most of what I want.
