A proper OBDII adaptor. Be wary of the Chinese knock-offs for 20 bucks - they are fickle from application to application. I paid something like $80 - $100 for mine, and it works with everything I've tried so far.
Torque Pro is the Almighty on the Android. That being said... there are other apps with more features like Buzz test and CCT, but they are unpolished - and my attempt to use them left my truck in a strange "mode" until I had to clear it with my "real" scan tool.
