Torque Pro and another Android App called Car Gauge Pro are awesome. Car Gauge Pro does one of the things that Torque doesn't do. I think CGP does the cylinder contribution test and Torque doesn't, if I remember correctly.
But between the two of them, you can monitor everything but the TPS input to the PCM, do buzz tests, and cylinder contribution tests. Not bad for about $20 worth of apps and hardware.
There may be a PID available for Torque Pro now that does TPS. I'm not sure.
I've never used AE, but I can only assume it's better than a couple of $5 Android Apps. But... I've successfully diagnosed my own truck a handful of times with the two apps.
Yes, even my 94 has OBDII. There is a rumor that the 94 trucks have the OBDII port but the PCM required a dealer flash to enable it. All I know is that mine worked right away. Maybe that means it's been to a dealer before me and been flashed, who knows?
What are you wanting to look at? You may only need a cheapo to see it, or you may need a more thorough tool.
Check injectors, temps, oil pressures, anything I might need to. I'm getting more into fixing my own powerestrokes. Labor in my toy room is a lot cheaper. And, right now cheap is good. But, I want to do it right. I might go with the AE. I have a couple of these trucks. Might be a wise investment for me.
Make sure you already have a Windows laptop or save room in the budget for one. $100 to $150 should get all the laptop you need if you are a savvy shower.
I have a laptop. I am leaning towards the AE. Once funds can be accumulated. I do like the torque pro, it seems like a good alternative to pillar gauges? Do, you think? But, there is no way to read pyro, or boost? is there?
Boost, yes. It uses the MAP sensor (boost is MAP minus ambient pressure, and most devices do the math using MAP and BARO). Pyro, no, since there is no factory EGT sensor.

The AE is laptop/PC based...likely something you don't want mounted full time. And if you did (like the police or service vehicles do) it wouldn't be too handy to watch.
I have no experience with the Torque, but mounting a phone for viewing seems more practical.
You still seem to be tossing between gauges and diagnostics. In my mind, the Aeroforce Interceptor is the best compromise. And it has two analog inputs so you can run an EGT probe and boost gauge if you desire. Will read and clear codes, buzz and contribution test, and most other things a AE will...just not as handy.
I have mine on the column in a superduty pod...looks almost factory. I can select two of a variety of readings to watch. And it is always there...no booting up a laptop, etc. This was my first purchase for the truck when I bought it.

A laptop would have to be programed every single time you started the motor, PITA. I asked AE why it couldn't remember the settings but he said that it will not. Also, the scan gauge will display eight different settings, two at a time at the speed you set it at.
AE remembers the settings for me. Their support showed me how to do it; something to do with setting permissions on a registry entry. You must've gotten a support person who didn't know how to do it.
