5.0 Aftermarket Alternator Bracket?

Anyone swapped a billet or aftermarket type alternator bracket on a truck 5.0? I no longer have the smog and I would like to get rid of the big chunk of aluminum bracket that is only holding on the alternator and tensioner and replace with a lightweight adjustable mount. I'd like to see pics if anyone has any...and what brand they used, what they needed to make it work, etc. Thanks in advance!

No one has done this? I figured at least one person would have done this due to a tensioner that's losing tension, or something. I guess I'll be the trailblazer. I am researching what will work, although I know I'll have to swap alternator's due to the truck alt. not having mounting ears. I want to upgrade to 130a anyway. Still looking for input if someone has any.

I also removed the smog pump on my 1985 F150 and decided to get rid of the huge iron bracket that was left with nothing on it. The stock one on my truck mounted the alternator down low and the smog pump was mounted right above it. There was a hole in this bracket for one of the heater hoses to go through.

What I did was to remove the stock bracket and replaced it with an alternator bracket, bolts, and spacer from a 1975 Ford F100. One bracket bolts to the water pump and another bracket bolts to the engine block, all using existing holes I already had. This set up looks a whole lot neater and mounts the alternator up high, where you can actually see it and get to it. And don't forget you are also going to need to get a shorter belt to run the alternator.

Mine is cast aluminum, but has to weigh 25 pounds, just to hold the alternator, (and tensioner). I already have a shorter belt due to smog being removed, which on mine was mounted below the alternator. I just want the extra weight gone and the ability to adjust the tension on the belt. I thought about some old school brackets, but was not sure of the alignment for the serpentine as they were designed for v belt.

You are absolutely correct. I forgot all about the fact that my truck still used V-belts, and yours has a serpentine belt. The 1975 bracket wouldn't work for you at all; sorry about that!

The only accessory on my Mustang is the alternator. The Mustang bracket and tensioner will work with the right size belt, but the tensioner will be backwards. Use a small enough belt that you have to put a little tension on the alternator to get the bolt in the top of the alternator.

What do you mean the tensioner will be backwards? I want to get rid of the stock bracket and tensioner and just use the aftermarket mustang alternator brackets that are adjustable. Can you send me a pic of your mustang setup? Also...the radiator hose could be an issue as it comes straight in to the motor where on the 5.0 stang motor it goes over to the passenger side and then up to the radiator.
