460 dipstick

I need a dipstick for my truck. When I went to rear sump
Pan, I couldn't find the original. Anyone done an aftermarket, and if so which one?

The econoline vans should be rear sump. Also, you should have a broader range of years to select from

Need more help on this. Parts stores have no listings for dipstick for 460. We went through all the economies and you can get a pan but not the dipstick.

The 460 was swapped into your '78 F150 4WD, because it wasn't there originally.

460 not available with 4WD or M/T until 1983 and then only in F250/350. All 1968/82 460's came with the C6.

460: 1968/78 Lincoln/Continental Marks; 1972/76 Thunderbird; 1973/76 F100 2WD; 1973/78 Ford/Merc Passenger Cars; 1973/79 F250/350 2WD; 1975/79 F150 2WD

1975/97 E250/350; 1983/96 F250/350 2WD/4WD; 1997 F250 H/D & F350 2WD/4WD

All 1975/97 E250/350's w/a 460 have a rear sump oil pan, but the dipstick and tube are E250/350 only.

Yes, I swapped it in. Then I got a rear sump pan from a friend. You have any part numbers for dipstick assy? All he could bring up were universal push in types, mine is threaded.

I don't have a Ford part number for your dipstick & tube application, because there isn't any.

You'll have to use a universal dipstick, Lokar is one supplier. I don't know who would make a tube, it might be Lokar, might not.

What vehicle did the rear sump pan come from?

I don't have the specs for the dipstick, but 1973/79 F100/350 460 (all 2WD) dipstick tube is 6 19/32" long. 1975/82 E250/350 460 dipstick tube is 28" long.

The Econolines have a very short hood, reaching into the engine compartment, even to access the aircleaner is difficult. So Ford made the dipstick & tube long enough for EZ access.

Open the hood, one of the first things you'll see is the looong dipstick and tube. Something else you'll see, Econolines have a long oil fill tube, it connects to the valve cover w/a curved hose.

FYI, do everything you can to save the original. I got the one from graveyard as it's the only one I could find, it cost me $80. That's more than I paid for 2 rear sump
Pans.
