So I was going to get a new dash pad. I see there are new dash pad covers that cover your damage dash pad for significantly less money. Does anyone have any experience with the covers and how they look? I'm in the process of ordering everything I need for my interior but don't know which I should go with. Also I will be painting the inside of the cab floors to prevent future rust and also I was thinking using spray can type on the underside of the floor. I'm torn between POR-15 and Permatex. I dont think POR makes a spray can but the permatex does. And or carroseal. They all have good reviews. What do you guys suggest. Thanks!
Levi, I'm new to Ford trucks (besides the 03 ccsb RWD Lariat that I once owned). However, I know this is THE SUPPLIER to get your dash redone correctly: http://www.justdashes.com/
Be prepared to pay a hefty sum. I've heard their work is top notch though.

Reason: Oops...
The covers are an ABS 'skin' that goes over the old pad, so they are hard to the touch. All depends on how good the build process is - the one I put on my Triumph fit well and looked good, but as you can see above, when they make the cover there are enough variables that quality can be hit or miss. The cover is cheaper, a re-vinyled or new pad is costlier but nicer. You get what you pay for.
Their abs plastic, and don't fit real good. I sent mine back twice before I got one that came of the mold ok. Looks good until you feel it.
Here's my cap, didn't bother trying to paint it green since I decided to change what I was replacing with black anyway. As previously mentioned, the look good for a daily driver. If I was restoring this truck or putting it in shows, then I'd want an OEM pad. Mine fit good right out of the box and I haven't had any issues.
I've had the cheap cover before, and it looked like...a cheap cover.
Go with the real deal. They can be easily painted if you use the right paint. You can even repair cracks with pretty good results, if you are on a tight budget.

I put one of the hard plastic covers over the cracked padded dash of my '68 Galaxie XL
