My truck is a 92 f150 with a 5.0 and an E40d out of a 95 f250. I thought the pan was leaking but found the fluid is coming out of this seam directly behind the bolt holes. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?
Is that the seam where the tail housing meets the rest of the transmission? If so, I would think there's supposed to be a gasket between those 2 surfaces. I'm not sure what is involved in removing the tail housing from an E4OD.
Yes it is, on the far right side of the picure you can kind of see the transmission mount. Looks like the t-case will have to come out but I have no clue what else is involved
Of course, you could always put a pan gasket on the transmission with plenty of RTV or sealant. Hopefully it would seal this leak. Then again, I've always been of the opinion that automatic transmission gaskets shouldn't be loaded up with RTV or sealant. It may break loose and get lodged in your valve body.
Hopefully someone can chime in and let you know how to remove the tail housing.
I removed the housing off of my old trans to take a look and there is a gasket in there, I noticed the 2 bolts that hold the bottom on were about 2 inches longer than all of the other bolts. So I went and looked at the housing on my truck and it was missing these 2 large bolts. I reinstalled them and am hoping it fixes the leak and didn't mess the gasket up, now all I need to find is tail housing torque specs
