So my cruise control is "surging" ikn my 88 f250. I put it in quotes because its more so that when I activate it, it goes full throttle then no throttle back forth constantly. I can't seem to figure out the issue. My boss (I work at a ford dealer but don't have the old literature to look at) suspects the servo but I don't see that being an issue since it can go full throttle no issue. I was thinking maybe the vss in the diff but I'm not sure if that is what the cruise control runs off of. Does anyone have the diagram for the cruise control system?
VSS is a good place to start because if I remember right thats what feeds the ecm speed info as well as the odometer.
I could also see the servo, but honestly that truck is old, so it would be cheap enough to just pull one from a junk truck and try swapping it.
Well I know it doesn't feed the speedo because it is cable driven on the 88. I was pretty sure it fed the ecm and I know it feeds the abs. I do get intermittent abs light but it never comes on at a convenient time to read the code. I guess I'll replace it and see if it does anything
The rear differential sensor is for the RABS system only. There is a VSS inline with the speedometer cable to feed the computer and the Speed Control servo. On 4wd vehicles I believe this is located on the transfer case.
