So going back to the original question...why not just put a magnet on the outside of the oil filter? Seems like it will accomplish the same thing and not mess with the oil drain plug.
Inspect the OEM drain plug - it might already use a magnet . However --
From that photo it looks like the drain is above those double lines and other pipe. I would look into a Fumoto drain valve that turns the drain stream straight down just to avoid clean up from splatter time after time. My 6.5 qt Duratec 30 has an easy initial 12 inch or so oil stream drain arc but nothings in it's way to interupt the flow the drain pan.
The magnetic band for the oil filter works well on Allison trans filters so one similar would work around the oil filter.
There is the Magnafilter Magnetic Oil Pre Filter available , but myself, i would use filter bands before that adapter.
Just an FYI,
My 2011 6.7 had the composite pan and plug.
The alleged benefits were noise reduction and longevity,
Apparently the guys up North with all the road salt liked them.
I think they went back to metal in 2012. Don't know what that says for longevity.
