Magnetic drain plug?

Do the 2017 F150s have a magnetic oil drain bolt?

If not what would be a good place to source one?

My 2017 H.O. Ecoboost has a plastic drain plug and a plastic oil pan. You only turn the plug 1/4 turn to remove it and re-install it. I'm not sure if it's just the Ecoboosts that have this?? I've done 2 oil changes so far. I'm not real crazy about the idea but I doubt I'll have any issues with it. I'll just change the o-ring every so often.
I'm pretty sure there aren't any aftermarket magnetic replacements yet.

I always get a Fumoto valve off Amazon; try there for a magnetic plug too.

Is the drain plug in the plastic oil pan or metal engine block? I'd be leery of using metal next to plastic.

Just put a magnet on the oil filter. I wouldn't put a metal plug into a plastic hole.

I bet a magnet would fit in that hole on the drain plug. (Donʻt do it)

When I did my first oil change. The re installment of that cap seemed sketchy to me. I did not seem secure.

I was so used to wrenching drain plugs on.

Heh. Same here. I've only done one oil change so far, but I was really paranoid about that plug coming loose or just popping out all together. I think I was sticking my head underneath after every drive for the whole first month making sure it was still on right.

Anyway, while it doesn't feel secure compared to a screw-in steel bolt, it certainly seems to be.

Also, has anyone bought one of the aftermarket plugs on Amazon? I was thinking for the $10 or so, it would be good insurance to keep a spare in the toolbox.

It seems there are a few manufacturers though, and I'm unsure of quality. If anyone has experience with any of them, I'd sure be interested in hearing opinions.

Looks like just a regular metal drain plug, any reason not to find a magnetic replacement?

Plastic oil pan and plastic plug? Geez how cheap are these new trucks? I'll gladly pay another 100.00 for a metal oil pan.

Ford tough huh?

I'd like to know if it is truly plastic or a composite material. And I'd like to have a word with the engineer that chose the material. I know cost and weight are factors in everything...but come on...the bottom of the pan exposed to the road?

What about for those who go off road, either trails or have to go into road construction areas? Hit a stump or rock just right and there goes your engine. Sure if the metal skid plates can go back far enough to protect it that's once thing, but an open pan, not a chance.

Could one epoxy a magnet to the drain plug to accomplish the same thing rather than look for a steel plug that might ruin the plastic/composite pan?

Wouldnʻt the hard diaper protect the oil pan?

My 2017's oil pan is definitely aluminum and the drain plug is a regular metal one.

Not sure who has the composite/ plastic set ups.

Which engine do you have?

I would have paid another $100 for that option...if it would've been an option.
