I had my dealer do the scheduled oil change this morn and the service advisor came out to tell me I had to buy a new oil drain pug because it was stripped. I then suggested he check my history to note that this dealership has done every maintenance on my F250 since new and that he enjoy paying for the plug himself. The dealer then decided to comp my oil drain plug.
Here's the real question - I asked them when they were replacing my oil pan since I assumed that was stripped as well and was told that the drain plugs are aluminum and the pans are not so the plug will strip but not the oil pan itself so my oil pan is fine.
Can anyone confirm or deny?
Do I need to get a Ford service rep on this forum to look into it?
I have a $70k truck that my dealer stripped a $15 part on that could have greater implications down the road.
I have never known a drain plug to be made of aluminum on Ford Vehicles. With that said, sometimes an over zealous mechanic/service tech gets wrench happy and can strip the threads out of the pan or off the drain plug. Usually it is the pan that strips in the ones I have seen. There is a piece of metal spot welded on the inside of the pan that has the threads. It is like 1/4" to 3/8" thick.
Dorman and other companies make oversize drain plugs for this reason. They come in 1x and 2x oversize. The oversize drain plug is designed to be "self tapping" and will cut new threads of the same size and pitch as the original plug but will be deeper threads.
I would have asked them to show me the drain plug just to satisfy my curiosity. Personally, I would not worry about getting anyone involved since the dealer comped the oversize drain plug. I would as if they annotated the Oasis info to show the problem and fix.
The Fumoto or EZ-Drain valve might not be a simple solution if the pan was stripped and they installed an oversize drain plug. I do not know if either valve works when you have gone to oversized drain plug or if the valves come in oversize adapters.
Another reason why I do it myself. Sorry to hear about that OP. My 2011 has the yellow plug... I can't install the EZ drain. Im bummed it looks like it works pretty well.

Next oil change you could covert to the metal pan. Is not overly expensive "upgrade". Your local parts house can get a Dorman oil pan or get one from Ford.

Also, can get a billet oil pan from Absolute Performance in Kennewick, Washington
The drain plug is steel and is magnetic. The magnet has the purpose of catching Metal filings in the engine.
The pan is also steal.
Dealer is blowing smoke.
I don't let the dealer change the oil because of past experience. Lets see, forgot to put oil in the engine, used the wrong oil, did not tighten the oil plug. Their lowest paid techs do the oil changes and you get what you pay for. You basically have to watch them every step. By the time you do that its easier to change it yourself.
Thank you all.
I have emailed the dealer to insure this is tracked on my oasis and to insure I'm not getting stuck with a bill down the road for damage they caused.

i used to think the plug was magnetic too. Maybe they used to be. The one that came out of my 2016 was not magnetic however. It would be a sound idea.... I converted the the ez drain last oil change.

This happens all the time, you really don't have anything to worry about. You sound like a tough guy to please.

On the contrary, if it happened at the dealer I definitely would want it recorded. Probably never happen but if the plug were to loosen up and cost you an engine, you have something to back you up. My motto is "In all cases cover your ***"
